Bt Brinjal shouldn't be cultivated across the country according to my opinion.The patented Bt Brinjal contains genetic material that makes the brinjal plant produce Bt toxin.It is good in the sense that it can fight against pests.But it has also got its drawback also.It can adversely affect the biodiversity and environment.The clearence was given to Bt Brinjal based on inadequate tests,failing to look at the death of animals grazing in the Bt cotton fields and ignoring data that indicated the harmful effects of Bt food on the liver and kidney.Hence without proper research it is inappropriate to launch these seeds.
This genetically modified brinjal is actually is actually created by India's number one seeds company Mahyco in collaboration with American multinational Monsanto.The credibility of Mahyco has been questioned in recent times following the serious health concerns being caused by them.Also it is believed that a majority of necessary biosafety tests were skipped before the clearence was given.This itself is a strong reason for refusing to approve Bt Brinjal.
