I personally feel that BT brinjal shouldnt be approved in India. Brinjal is a crop that is extensiely grown in the country. There is no need for futher modifications and bringing in something artificial.
There are no proofs that the BT brinjals are safe to be consumed by people. In foreign countries, they may be using these kind of subsitutes due to the lack of these crops. But they too make it a point, to only feed the cattles and use them in processed food. It was also found in a recent study that, when the cattle was left to be fed on Bt-cotton,most of the died! Why on earth would we want to take such a huge risk and bring in these fake crops, when we already have the real ones in plenty?
They say that these Bt brinjals have some kind of chemicals in them which kills the pests....Doesnt it have the same effect, when pesticides are put on the real crops?Or further more, since it is produced with chemicals, there could be more of chemicals, which could be even more harmful for the human system, than the normal crops with pesticides!
Today it is brinjal; if this is sold in the markets and promoted, tommorrow, they would bring about genetic modifications to all the other edible crops, giving evolution to consumption of fake food in the long run, making the consumers some sort of lab rats!
