Google Vs China

Hello everyone.....here i would like to deal with the cyber attacks of varying degrees on Google on a regular basis. In mid-December, Google detected a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on their corporate infrastructure originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property. However, it soon became clear that what at first appeared to be solely a security incident--albeit a significant one--was something quite different.

First, this attack was not just on Google. As part of their investigation they have discovered that at least twenty other large companies from a wide range of businesses--including the Internet, finance, technology, media and chemical sectors--have been similarly targeted. Google is currently in the process of notifying those companies, and they are also working with the relevant U.S. authorities.

Second, Google have evidence to suggest that a primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. Based on their investigation to date they believe their attack did not achieve that objective. Only two Gmail accounts appear to have been accessed, and that activity was limited to account information and subject line, rather than the content of emails themselves.

Third, as part of this investigation but independent of the attack on Google, they have discovered that the accounts of dozens of U.S, China and Europe-based Gmail users who are advocates of human rights in China appear to have been routinely accessed by third parties. These accounts have not been accessed through any security breach at Google, but most likely through phishing scams or malware placed on the users' computers.

The decision to review the business operations in China has been incredibly hard, and it will have potentially far-reaching consequences.

As per my opinion Google should withdraw from China if there is high rate of manipulation. But this will give an opportunity for other search engines like Yahoo and Bing to establish itself in China.

  1. hey YAHOO was the first company to enter CHINA in 2004......... they couldn't make use of the opportunity mainly because Chinese people don't send e mails.............. so no point about other search engines to establish except for the indigenous ones.......... anyway i think Chinese government is also started looking into the hacking and is totally against it now and they have also lifted a lot of ban and has made the internet open for all............. so i feel if Google withdraws from China would be a huge loss for them.................
