Kerala is getting ready to present first GREEN BUDGET in the country with increased focus on environmental issues. Dr Thomas Isaac and his team is busy to give final touch to the eco friendly budget ,which will be present on March 5.Green Budget is one ,which give more important on environmental protection measures to reduce carbon emission and encouraging afforestation.
“Incentives will be there for carbon emission reduction with tax benefits for those promoting green technology, improvement of forest cover and use of alternative energy resources,” state finance minister Thomas Isaac told. Dr Isaac budget will also give incentive for other measures to mitigate global warming such as lower power consumption.
Talks are being progressing between the state and central government on this matter and allocation of funds being expected. Growing public concern for environment protection as well as popular campaigns against Bt brinjal, forest-submerging dams, and encroachment of forests will help the green budget to garner attention. In this era of global warming this type of initiatives are commendable. Kerala’s budget would likely be the first of its kind in the country.
