BT Brinjal

Bt Brinjal is transgenic brinjal created out of inserting gene from soil bacterium to brinjal.BT brinjal is developed by Maharastra Hybrid Seeds Company. There are many issues bought up with Bt brinjal. The reality is that Indian regulatory regime with regard to GM crops had never been assesed throughly whether right questions are being asked of regarding GM risk assesment in Indian condition.Several studies in Bt crop particularly and in GM crops in generally shows that several health hazardous in foods bio-engineered in this manner.It includes organ development and damange ,immune responsiveness and so on. A study from philliphenesse shows that people living near to BT cotton field shows several symptoms of disese especially at the time of pollination.
Whether there no alternative for BT Brinjal??????
There is a lot of experience in mechanical control as well as non-mechanical IPM strategies with Indian research strategies.Simple hing like pheromone trap for mass trapping, sanitation on the fields ( this hepls to reduce shoot&fruit insect which is a major problem for Brinjal farmers in India), mechanical barriers, use of local plants for extracting pesticides etc... Many ways are there to increase brinjal production in India and to save Brinjal. Still every one need Bt brinjal. What is needed is public support to promote such alternative and to implement it.
